This Unit will be assessed by an individual written report written in formal business report. You are strongly advised to read “Preparation Guidelines of the Coursework Document” before answering your assignment.

ASSIGNMENT

Scenario for LO1

You need to create a development portfolio which shows your ‘own’ learning progress and acquisition of key skills. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs and subsections as appropriate. The portfolio should include evidence for the planning and monitoring of progress towards the achievement of personal and professional objectives.

Students are to produce a portfolio containing the following documents:

  • Skills and attributes analysis required by HR professionals, based on a range of different roles within an organisation.
  • Personal SWOT analysis.
  • Personal development plan based on the SWOT analysis for one of the job roles.
  • Reflective statement.

Scenario for LO2, LO3 and LO4

You are recruited as an external Learning and Development Consultant by a large global organisation of your choice. The Director of Human Resources of your organisation requires you to produce an individual report which must address the following question:

To what extent does the organisation effectively utilise learning and development to support individuals and teams to help it to operate high-performance working (HPW) in a high-performance culture?

You are required to demonstrate the use of critical thinking to support a conclusion that justifies your arguments. The report should cover the following:

  • An introduction to the organisation.
  • An analysis of continuing professional development (CPD) and the requirements for individual and organisational development.
  • An evaluation of what HPW is and how HPW contributes to employee engagement and motivation, providing specific examples as evidence.
  • Evaluate the different approaches to HPW and make recommendations for improvements

What you must do

The following issues are required to be carried out:

LO1  Analyse  the  knowledge,  skills  and  behaviours  expected  of  staff  members  by  HR

professionals

Using examples from an organisation of your choice, determine appropriate and professional knowledge, skills and behaviours that are required by HR professionals.

You  are required to  analyse  a  completed  personal  skills  audit  to identify appropriate knowledge, skills  and  behaviours  and  develop  a  professional  development  plan  for  a  given  job  role  in  an organisation   of   your   choice.     You   should   provide   a   detailed   professional   skills   audit   that demonstrates evidence of personal reflection and evaluation.

LO2 Analyse the factors to be considered when implementing and evaluating inclusive learning and development to drive sustainable business performance.

Using examples from your chosen organisation, analyse the differences between organisational and individual learning, training and development.  You are required to analyse the need for continuous learning and professional development to drive sustainable business performance.  You should also apply learning cycle theories to analyse the importance of implementing continuous professional development.

Based on your analysis of the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of staff members by HR professionals and your analysis of the factors to be considered when implementing and evaluating inclusive learning and development, produce a detailed and coherent professional development

Using examples from your chosen oragnisation, demonstrate your understanding of how HPW contributes to employee engagement and competitive advantage.  You should use your chosen organisation to analyse the benefits of applying HPW.

LO4 Evaluate ways in which performance management, collaborative working and effective communication can support high-performance culture and commitment

To demonstrate your understanding of the importance of  performance in organisations,  evaluate different  approaches  to  performance  management  (e.g.  collaborative  working),  and  demonstrate with  specific  examples  how  they  can  support  high-performance  culture  and  commitment  in  your chosen   organisation.     You   should   critically   evaluate   the   different   approaches   and   make judgements on how effective they can be to support high-performance culture and commitment in your chosen organisation.

You are required to provide valid synthesis of knowledge and information resulting in appropriate judgements  on  how  HPW  and  mechanisms  used  to  support  HPW  lead  to  improved  employee engagement, commitment and competitive advantage in your chosen organisation.

  1. Preparation guidelines of the Coursework Document
  2. All coursework must be word processed.
  3. Document margins must not be more than 2.54 cm (1 inch) or less than 1.9cm (3/4 inch).
  4. Font size must be within the range of 10 point to 14 points including the headings and body text (preferred font size is 11).
  5. Standard and commonly  used  type  face,  such  as  Arial  and  Times  New  Roman,  should  be used.
  6. All figures, graphs and tables must be numbered.
  7. Material taken from external sources must be properly referred and cited within the text using

Harvard system

  1. Do not use Wikipedia as a reference.
  2. Plagiarism and Collusion

Any act of plagiarism or collusion will be seriously dealt with according to the College regulations. In this context the definitions and scope of plagiarism and collusion are presented below:

Plagiarism  is  presenting  somebody  else’s  work  as  your  own.  It  includes  copying  information directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an individual effort.

Collusion is copying another student’s coursework; stealing coursework from another student and submitting it as your own work.

Suspected plagiarism or collusion will be investigated and if found to have occurred will be dealt with according to the College procedure (For details on Plagiarism & Collusion please see the

Student Handbook).

  1. Submission
  2. Initial submission of coursework to the tutors is compulsory in each unit of the course.
  3. The student must check their assignments on ICON VLE with plagiarism software Turnitin to make sure the similarity index for their assignment stays within the College approved level. A

student can check the similarity index of their assignment three times in the Draft Assignment submission point located in the home page of the ICON VLE.

  1. All Final coursework must be submitted to the Final submission point into the Unit (not to the Tutor).  The  student  would  be  allowed  to  submit  only  once  and  that  is  the  final submission.
  2. Any computer files generated such as program code (software), graphic files that form part of the coursework must be submitted as an attachment to the assignment with all documentation.
  3. Any portfolio for a Unit must be submitted as a hardcopy to the Examination Office.
  4. The student must attach the tutor’s feedback from the First submission in between the cover page and the answer in the case of Resubmission.
  5. Good practice
  6. Make backup of your work in different media (hard disk, memory stick, etc.) to avoid distress due to loss or damage of your original copy.
  7. Extension and Late Submission
  8. If you  need  an  extension  for  a  valid  reason,  you  must  request  one  using  an  Exceptional Extenuating  Circumstances  (EEC)  form  available  from  the  Examination  Office  and  ICON VLE.  Please  note  that  the  lecturers  do  not  have  the  authority  to  extend  the  coursework deadlines and therefore do not ask them to award a coursework extension. The completed form  must  be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event  of  you being sick, and should be submitted to the Examination Office.
  9. Late submission will be accepted and marked according to the College procedure. It should be noted that late submission may not be graded for Merit and Distinction.
  10. All late coursework must be submitted to the Late submission point into the unit (not to the Tutor)  in the ICON VLE.  A student  is allowed to  submit only once  and that  is also treated as the final submission.

Glossary:

Analyse: Break an issue or topic into smaller parts by looking in depth at each part.  Support each part with arguments and evidence for and against (Pros and cons).

Apply: Use a particular method/technique to solve a problem.  Demonstrate potential application of a tool/technique etc., with clear justification as to suitability and relevance

Critically Evaluate: When you critically evaluate you look at the arguments for and against an issue. You look at the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments.   This could be from an article you read in a journal or from a text book.

Demonstrate: To provide several relevant examples or related evidence which clearly support the arguments you are making. To show knowledge and understanding.

Determine: Decide, e.g. what is relevant/correct/appropriate. Decide, come to a decision as a result of investigation or reasoning. Find a solution by following a set of procedures or to obtain a numerical value by carrying out a series of calculations. Ascertain or establish exactly by research or calculation.

Evaluate: When you evaluate you look at the arguments for and against an issue.

Produce: Bring into existence: make out of nothing and for the first time. Plan and presentation of ideas to show the layout/function/workings/object/system/process. Originate, e.g., to produce a solution to a problem.

Provide: Make available.
