Submission Regulations

1              You are required to submit your coursework on-line through the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which can be accessed through http://stpmoodle.net. Detailed information about this is available in the Student Handbook.

2              Details of submission procedures and related course of actions can be obtained from the Academic Administration Department or the Student Handbook.

3              If you are unable to submit your coursework on time due to extenuating circumstances, you are required to make an application to your respective Schools for it to be considered, using an ‘Extenuating Circumstances Form’ available from the Academic Admin Office. Do not ask the lecturers responsible for the course – they are not authorised to award an extension. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick.

4              Specific requirement or subject specific requirement for coursework submission will be stated further in the assignment brief or will be advised by your lecturer.

To achieve M2, students must use appropriate resource materials for the assignment including the use of books, journals, publication and text and internet throughout their assignment. For this assignment you must effectively demonstrate your understanding and skills in facilitating change in Health and Social Care Organisations.  To do so you must carry out the tasks below in relation to the CQC report for Beacon Edge Care Home (BECH).Carefully read the CQC report for Beacon Edge Care Home (BECH). The CQC reports showed a need for urgent changes in the Hospital. Then, imagine that you are a Team Leader or Manager and you are responsible for facilitating change. You are required to identify and make required changes before the next CQC inspection. To carry out this task, you must carry out research on relevant available literature / data sources to answer the tasks below. It is advisable that you consult relevant sources of literature and data (e.g. free NHS or CQC online reports and texts) on the organization to fully understand the context of change.

Format: Written REPORT, this will be in three sections TASK A, B and C with each assessment criteria as a subheading.

Task A

In relation to the given CQC report

  • Explain the key factors that drive change in health and social care ( AC 1.1)
  • Assess the challenges that key factors of change brings to health and social care services (AC 1.2, M1)

[To answer the above assignment criteria use any or all these: PEST Analysis, SWOT Analysis or Force Field Analysis, to depict the factors driving change in your chosen organisation. You should be able to show the potential challenges of these factors for service users, staff and the organisation, why you identified these factors and some potential priorities for change. The PEST and SWOT analyses samples can be found on STP Moodle week 2]

Task B

In relation to the given CQC report

  • Devise a strategy and criteria for measuring recent changes in health and social care (LO 2.1, D2)
  • Measure the impact of recent changes on health and social care services against set criteria (LO 2.2)
  • Evaluate the overall impact of recent changes in health and social care (LO 2.3, D1)

[To answer the above assessment criteria, you have to devise own criteria and strategies to show how you will measure the impact of recent changes which could be either plan or unplanned for all the different stakeholders. You need to read and research extensively into the background of your chosen type of organisation to understand the context of change and how change might be measured and evaluated]

  • Propose appropriate service responses to recent changes in health and social care services (LO 2.4, D2)

 

[To answer the above criterion you have to propose how your chosen organisation could respond to the recent changes you evaluated above.  You should reflect on possible impacts both negative and positive of your suggestions on service users, professionals and the organisation to compare the options]

In relation to you’re the given CQC report

  • Explain the key principles of change management (LO 3.1, D3)

(To answer the above assessment criteria you need to explain the key principles of change management e.g. reducing resistance, creating ownership, different models e.g. Kubler-Ross, Lewin, Kotter, etc., to be considered for successful planning, implementation and monitoring of change in your chosen context.

  • Explain how changes in health and social care are planned (LO3.2)
  • Assess how to monitor recent changes in health and social care services (LO3.3, D3)

[To answer the above assessment criteria, explain how change could be planned to meet the change priorities you identified earlier, and assess how the changes could be monitored during / after implementation.  You may wish to include a project timeline diagram/chart to represent your change plan and monitoring/measurement process, although this is optional. This diagram is found on STP Moodle under week 8].

Formative assessment

You will receive formative feedback and comments on your report, which you must submit in Week 4 (Task A). Thereafter Week 7 (Task B) and Week 10 (Task C) can be shown to your lecturer as a printed version in class or emailed to your lecturer for feedback and one-to-one consultation. You will be given feedback on work you present formatively. Please use the feedback to improve on your work before your final submission.

Impact of recent changes on organisations and staff: how services are organised; effect on front-line staff; effect on service delivery; impact of recent changes on users of services: direct users; families of those who use services benefits of recent changes: for the government; for workers in services; for those who use services

3 Understand the principles of change management

Key principles of change management: Kotter’s eight steps to successful change; Leavitt’s model of change; people’s reactions to change; dealing with people’s fears and anxieties; understanding people’s needs; reducing resistance to change; leading change; creating ownership

Formative Submission

Formative assessment will take place to advise you on your progress within the term (during the 5th week) and the ways in which you could improve before the final (summative) submission. The feedback is for your benefit and is not part of your final grade for the unit.  Formative feedback may, however, not be as detailed as the final feedback you receive, and may be in verbal and/or written form (at the lecturer’s discretion).  You will be asked to submit your work for formative feedback in electronic or hard copy form to which you will receive verbal and/or written feedback.

Final (Summative) Submission

You need to submit the report covering all the 4 sections which relate to all the assessment requirements in this unit via www.stponline.co.uk on or before 31th July 2015.

Further Guidance

Grading

Each Unit will be graded as a Pass, Merit, and Distinction when all learning outcomes and assessment criteria have been met.

A Pass is awarded for the achievement of all Learning Outcomes against the specified Assessment Criteria.

A Merit or Distinction is awarded for higher level achievement upon achieving the M’s and D’s criteria.

If all required assessment criteria have not been achieved the work is graded ‘Referred’.

If the work illustrate more than the similarity % cap or concern over originality of part or all content of the work, it is graded ‘Withheld’. The student will then be interviewed to ascertain originality.

In the case of incomplete work or partial submission (others such as blank template, no evidence of real attempt), the work is graded ‘Unreasonable Submission’.

When a Unit has been assessed, Grades are reported on the College’s VLE. You can obtain the grade awarded by viewing the Submission Inbox, navigating different tabs to see the status of your submission. By viewing the Report, the Originality can be obtained. Clicking on the GradeMark tab will reveal the QuickMark comments. Clicking on the General Comment tab will reveal the comments made by the Assessor and Internal Verifier.

Please note that numeric value (for example, 75% for Distinction) is used to classify the different grades awarded to support the system requirement on the College’s VLE, Grades are reported on the VLE as follow:
